About

The Lincoln Spanish Immersion Program was approved by the Lincoln Consolidated School District Board of Education in May 2012.  The Board recommended the program begin in the fall of 2012 with a single K-1 classroom with the intention of adding a new grade level each year until we have Spanish Immersion classrooms at each elementary grade level.  The classroom is like any other K-1 classroom at Bishop Elementary with the exception of the language spoken.

The purpose of this program is to begin to teach a second language to children at a time when they are most receptive to language.  Students in this program learn the same curriculum as students in the English language classroom. However, the language of the classroom is Spanish.  English instruction is added in 2nd grade with science and social studies.  Currently the program is part of the multi-age program at Bishop Elementary School.  As the program develops courses will be expanded to Middle School and High School.

This website is run by parent volunteers.  Our hope is that eventually this website will be supporting multiple classrooms.  We also hope to identify resources, collect learning ideas and materials, and become a source of support for students in our program and others who wish to learn strategies to succeed with a second language for elementary age students.

We appreciate your feedback.  Please contact us with your ideas to grow and improve our program and this website.
