Maestra Gonzalez

¡Hola! Me llamo Maestra Gonzalez. I am from Donna, Texas but spent my summers in Michigan and New York with my family of twelve working as migrant farm workers.   I graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 2006 with 3 minors; Language Arts, Science and Bilingual Education.  Upon graduating I taught in a Spanish Immersion school in Southwest Detroit called Academy of the Americas for 7 years while at the same time attending grad school to complete my Masters  (also from EMU) with a Social Foundations degree.  When Lincoln Spanish Immersion began to grow, I was fortunate to join in on the ride. I’m currently a kindergarten and first grade teacher for our wonderful Lincoln Spanish Immersion program. I feel very passionate about bilingual education and the benefits that it brings to our global society. I believe that learning should be hands on, exploratory and fun!

Outside of work I like to learn new things; I feel that there is always room to grow. I enjoy running and recently completed the Detroit half marathon with  2 of my siblings.  I have the full marathon in sight (one day…).  I love to spend time with my family. My husband and I have two daughters. Paloma is a second grader in the Spanish Immersion program and Aurora will be in the program too (in about 5 years)!
